"Things" on Thursday

Things you should throw away but can't

Thank goodness the Hubs isn't writing my list for me. He would have a list a mile long. I will save you some agony and narrow that list down to three things.

1) MAGAZINES

Oh yes. I'm afraid I might possibly be a borderline hoarder when it comes to magazines. Yes, I know there is Pinterest. And I love Pinterest. But, there is something about having those tangible pages, corners to turn down, pages to tear out...

And, I just know that there will come a day when I will have hours upon end to chill out and look at my stockpile of magazines. (yeah, that's the ticket) Sipping on hot chocolate by the fire, knocking out a few mags here and there...ahhhhh...

Yeah, you find me on the couch in the supine position, and it won't be long before I'm in Zzzzzzzland.

Oh well, a gal can dream...

Look at this beautiful edition of "Edible Ozarkansas" that my friend, Angie Albright, gave me (check out her cool blog at  A Growing Season). No WAY could I throw that thing away. That publication makes every page look delicious. I don't care if the subject matter was edible or not. I just wanted to gobble up every page!

AND, the fact that it is ISSUE ONE! Collector's item! Yeah...no way will I be getting rid of it.

Who doesn't want to spend their valuable time reading about how good of a mother Snooki is, or who Prince Harry is dating, or remembering River Phoenix twenty years down the road...

It's ENTERTAINMENT, folks!

2) My old school stuff

I'm talking text books and notes from class. I don't know what it is. I think about keeping that stuff and I KNOW it's ridiculous. I LOOK at that stuff and I can't bring myself to throw it away.

All the hours...

All the torment...

So, I pile them up once again for the next attempt of the almighty de-clutter.

(I would show you a pic, but it's all piled up in a storage bin in the garage. Yes...oh, so accessible)

3) My kiddo's school stuff

Seriously.

Sugar is in first grade and Spice is in pre-school and I think together they've taken part in ridding a small forest of it's trees.

I recently saw on Ting's Mom about an app that you can file the photo format of all their hard work and turn it into a book (artkive). I DEFINITELY want to investigate that further.

So....there you have it. That's my top three.

Are they the same the Hubs would list? I don't know...that would be interesting.

I DO know that I shall hold onto my hopes and DREAMS of being organized...

But for now...

I'm dreaming of dreaming...

time for SLEEP!

Mugshot Monday

Who's had my phone?

Oh, I see...

Sugar.
(she's working on improving the selfie...pretty good for a six year old!)

Spice.
(she knows what to do and how to do it, but still seems to be in the experimental stage)

Bean.
(bless her heart...I love seeing those little 1/2 faces show up!)

Happy Monday, y'all!

"Things" on Thursday

What you ate for breakfast

This "assignment" works well for me today a) because I need it to be short and sweet, and b) I get to begin sharing about my fantastic weekend last couple of days (it sure felt like a weekend...).

Today's breakfast was no ordinary fare.

I dined amongst the FINE ladies of Arkansas Women Bloggers at the Edwardian Inn in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas (further details to come).

We sat around a large table and ate family style. Like one big HAPPY family.

We enjoyed a fabulous frittata, fresh fruit, homemade granola, yogurt, and delicious blueberry muffins.

There were juices made available in tall glass carafes. And COFFEE, of course.

And yes, I had some of all of the above...

and LOVED it!!

I SO wished I had a more photos to share with you...

BUT, unfortunately, my phone/camera-for-the-moment was malfunctioning!

What did you have for breakfast? (can you even remember?)

Bragging rights: 2013 Reddie Hall of Honor

On September 28, 2013, I was privileged to be a part of a very special celebration.

My Dad, aka Papa, was inducted into the Henderson State University, Reddie Hall of Honor.

This prestigious award is described to belong to the most legendary figures in the history of Reddie athletics.

Legendary.

That word is not associated with the majority and only belongs to those in an elite category.

Those that excel, and show exemplary leadership and performance in their sport.

My Dad's attribution was that of a Coach.

Not just any coach, but one that led his men with enthusiasm, dedication and fortitude.

My Dad worked seven days a week, 14 hours a day or MORE for my whole "growing up" life.

We had a few vacations sprinkled out over the years, but most of our "vacation" time was spent traveling to visit relatives (not that I didn't consider that a vacation, but...you know what I mean, right?)

I never really understood or truly appreciated at the time the rarity of the situation. My dad went to great efforts to assure our family the continuity and love of and for community.

He grew up moving dozens of times. He experienced being the new kid over and over.

He wanted differently for his family.

I am so thankful he had such aspirations.

I enjoyed a small town life with larger than life love.

I came to appreciate (admittedly, it took me a while) the benefits to a close-knit community.

I grew up being a part of and eventually belonged to the School with a Heart.

He'll always be "Coach" to many men and students.

He is "Papa" to my children.

I am proud to call him DAD.

Congratulations, Dad!

The following pictures are of the ceremony and from the game that day. You can tell from the photos that Dad doesn't meet a stranger and has many, many friends. He speaks highly of his players and fellow coaches. I've heard him time and time again express how proud he is to be a part of the Reddie family.  He continues to support and work toward the betterment of the University.

His Bio in the program read as follows:
George Baker served as an assistant football coach from 1974 to 1995 and was a part of four AIC Championships and two NAIA playoff teams. Baker served two years in the U.S. Army and played on the 8th Army Championship team in 1968. After his military tour, Baker returned to OBU and served as defensive coordinator for four years before making the wise decision to join Coach Sporty Carpenter’s staff in 1974. Baker was promoted to offensive coordinator in 1976. After seven years as offensive coordinator, Baker became the Reddie defensive coordinator in 1983. Baker’s tenure at Henderson was second-most among male coaches. Baker is also an author having written a book about Sporty Carpenter entitled "When Lightning Struck the Outhouse."

the man on the left was Dad's high school football coach! (not to take away from the wonderful man on the right -- his brother)

Couldn't be more proud!

I love these folks!

45 years of wedded bliss between these two!

love this picture of the Hubs with Papa (glad to see this U of A grad in a REDDIE shirt!) ;)

They even knew one of is nicknames! ;)

Keeping this crew entertained during the ceremony was interesting...

I have great memories of rolling down the hills of Carpenter-Haygood Stadium

this one says it all...
